This week’s 5 Bucks a Day Project : Myspace

Filed under: projects Posted: 8:47 am

Yes I’m going to dip my toe into Myspace this week and see what happens. There are over 130 million profiles on Myspace. That’s a lot more than I had originally thought.

There are two ways to market to Myspace profiles, that’s to leave comments with affiliate links or to make a profile about a niche and market niche products.

The comments with affiliate links seems the easiest of course. You just buy software to add friends, add comments and off you go. I guess the trick is making the comments seem personal and real. This one is less time consuming but spammy and black hat.

The other option will be much more time consuming as you need to make a profile, join niche groups, post in the groups, update your blog, etc. I’m told this way works as well, after you’ve built up your persona and people trust you.

There’s a forum devoted to Myspace marketing called Spacehogs. Haven’t joined or checked it out yet. Right now I’m marketing to Myspace with the free tips I’ve found.

Here is a great post on Myspace marketing by Joe Tierney the creator of SpacePromoter. SpacePromoter creates Myspace profiles very quickly. I can’t afford the software right now, so I’m making profiles manually.

He gives an example that you could make a soccer lover profile, search for profiles with soccer as an interest and just friend them. Then you could market by sending comments with soccer affiliate link and have the link on your profile too. Instead of just pushing paid survey to everyone, which is how he made $16k in one month!
